The following are my attempts to compare 3 common rifles / rounds and their theoretical joint capabilities. These comparisons were made to help me decide what I thought each combination could and could not do. 1. .308 Win., my general loading, 175 smk @ 2700, 26" Rem 700 PSS. 2. .300 Win., Fed GM Match, 190 smk @ 2900, 26" Rem 700 PSS. 3. .300 RUM, 3 different theory-only based handloads, rifle being custom built, 28" Rem 700 based rifle. All loads in each of the 3 calibers listed can be pushed a little more, but for my interest I'm interested in the maximum velocity that is achievable with the smallest group size / best accuracy potential. Disclaimer : Take this all with a 25 lb. bag of rock salt, I don't even play a ballistics expert on TV. Results are from the Sierra Infinity ballistics program, v2. Where needed, hundredths have been truncated or rounded. Fair warning, but it should matter little @ 2000 yards, etc. Also c.f. load notes after our five cartridges.
